It took me almost a week to finish this which is super abnormal. I am still interested in this story, but that is kind of in spite of my feelings for the main character. And I do still feel confused and don’t completely buy the romance. I feel like the author is trying to set up a love triangle but not 100% committing to that.
I’m not avoiding spoilers from the first book. You’ve been warned.
Jes is a very frustrating character. She keeps making some dumb ass mistakes and then by a miracle things work out for her. Fortunately, a lot of the other characters are compelling. This would probably be better if written as multiple POVs. That would help with my confusion, too.
The political machinations are definitely one of the more interesting parts of the story. And there are multiple layers which I like thinking about. I’m really curious to see how that is resolved in the final book because there is so much out there.
Actually, I’m curious about the resolution in general. I still have so many unanswered questions and I’m not sure they can be answered believably in one or more book. I guess I’ll find out.
Thanks for reading!
