This may be by new favorite-I need to re-read the first book in the series before I make a final decision. I could NOT put this down.
Taryn and Shaw were spectacular main characters. They both have compelling and heart-breaking stories. The whole series revolves around the fallout from a school shooting so of course it is pretty heavy. But this felt even more so because Taryn lost her sister and Shaw’s brother was one of the shooters. I’m so glad Ms. Loren showed that aspect of the story. I cannot imagine what it would be like to have someone you love do something so horrific. It really made me think about these people in the real world.
The romance was so well done. Both Taryn and Shaw go through so much, but the romance still felt believable. I was immediately hooked and invested in their story. Their interactions were so well done. And they acted like adults which I love. There was one tropey thing that happened which I’m not a huge fan of, but I’m fine with it.
And I’m still living for the friendship in this series. These four ladies are so supportive and loving. It is one of my favorite things to read about. And I love the inclusion of the guys in the group. Those were some of my favorite scenes-usually some levity in a very heavy book.
I can’t wait for Kincaid’s story.
Oh, and Taryn’s idea for fighting school shootings was compelling. I don’t know if it was based on actual research, but I would be interested in seeing something like that plan used in the real world.
Thanks for reading!
